In 2004 a number of 1101 patent applications were filed under the Patent Law no. 64 of 1991. Of the sum of 1101 filed patent applications, 937 patent applications were filed by Romanian applicants, the difference of 164 patent applications being filed by foreign applicants (37 applications filed by national route and 127applications filed by PCT route).
In 2004, Romania was designated in 68,620 european patent applications.
