In 2003 SPO received 2910 applications for registration of trademarks, including 840 applications for the national procedures and 2070 - for international procedures. We observe a decrease in filing of applications for national procedure, mainly due to the falling activity of the national applicants and some increase of activity of the foreign applicants: national applicants filed 454 applications, which makes 16% of the total number of filed applications; the share of the foreign applicants makes 84 %, including 13 % for national procedure and 71 % for the procedure of the Madrid agreement. Dynamics of filing applications for registration of trademarks is given in Table 1 (see attachment).

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of secondary sources of trademark information, i.e., trademark gazettes

The items of information on the registered trademarks are published in section "Trademarks" of the official bulletin «Rasmiy ahborotnoma», which comes out 1 time every 2 months. The official bulletin is published on paper carrier.

The items of information include the bibliographic data and images available in the database of trademarks of SPO.

The notices of SPO in the field of the information on trademarks are published in the section of the bulletin «Official messages» (legislative and normative documents, item of information on the fees etc.).

In 2003 the following editions were included in the publication on trademarks:
• official bulletin «Rasmiy ahborotnoma» - 6 issues
• the collection of annual indexes to official bulletin «Rasmiy ahborotnoma» for 2002 (section of the index on trademarks) - 1 volume.

The information on trademarks is stored in an existing database of trademarks of SPO.

For preparation of materials the automated system of processing of the documents is used. During processing of the applications, all documents concerning trade marks are scanned and are kept in a facsimile kind in a format ТIFF. The images of trademarks are entered in a format JPEG. The bibliographic data are kept and are processed in a format XML.

For preparation of the official bulletin the equipment - 12 workstations НР Vectra VL are used. The assembly of the chapter of the bulletin on trademarks is carried out automatically by special program processing the XML-document with the help style XSLT. Thus the target documents in a format HTML MS-Word is formed, in which is included the images of trademarks. The target document is formatted with the help of the cascade tables of styles CSS and is exported to publishing system. This system is used for formation of a part of the bulletin concerning trademarks.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of trademark information

The applications for trademarks are classified according to the International Classification of Goods and Services (Nice Classification). Since January 1, 2001, the 8-th edition of International Classification is used.

The identification of the bibliographic data (INID codes ), put in the patent bulletin, is carried out according to the recommended WIPO standards. For an effective utilization of INID codes by the users of the patent documentation and the information SPO regularly publishes the lists of codes in the official bulletin.

In trademark applications, the applicant should put down classification indexes according to International Classification.
