Annual Technical Report 2011 on Industrial Design Information Activities submitted by Serbia (CWS/ATR/ID/2011/RS)

The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.

 

I. Evolution of registration activities

Of the total number of 382 industrial design applications filed in 2011, 280 applications were filed by foreign applicants under the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs, while 102 applications were filed directly with the IPO by domestic and foreign applicants (of which 19 were multiple applications, making a total of 165 industrial designs).

The year 2011 saw the registration of 334 industrial designs, of which
255 were, registered in accordance with the Hague Agreement, and 79 on the basis of applications filed directly with the IPO.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied

Classification and reclassification activities; Classification system used, e.g., International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification), other classification (please indicate whether industrial designs are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification is used).
The Intellectual Property Office of Serbia uses the International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification) since 1973. All the documents are classified according to class and subclass of the Locarno Classification. Now the IPO uses and classifies according to the last edition of the Classification.

In 2011, the Official Gazette of the Intellectual Property Office of
Serbia, “Intellectual Property Gazette” was delivered to the following
countries:

The Office received gazettes from the following countries: BG, DE, JP, RU, TJ, and UA.

In the period from March 17 till March 18 one representative from the Group took part at the International Conference on Innovation and Creativity of Women for Economic Development – Design in Innovative Economy in Warsaw, Poland.

From March 28 till April 1 one representative from the Group took part at the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial designs and Geographical Indications in Geneva, Switzerland.

In the period from May 30 till June 1 one representative from the Group took part at the Ad hoc Working group of the Legal Development of the Hague System for the International Registration of Industrial Designs in Geneva, Switzerland.

All representatives of the Group took part in the WIPO Regional Seminar on the Protection of Design held from June 27 till June 28, 2011 in Belgrade, Serbia. Seminar was organized by WIPO in cooperation with IP Office of the Republic of Serbia.

In the period from October 24 till October 28 one representative from the Group took part at the Standing Committee on the Law of Trademarks, Industrial designs and Geographical Indications in Geneva, Switzerland.

The experts from the Office have visited the manifestations at the fairs, for example The Fair of Furniture, the Fair of Motor Cars, the Fair of Civil Engineering and other manifestations taking place at the Belgrade Fair.

On several occasions, the experts from the Office gave interviews in the daily papers and specialized magazines on the importance and procedure of protection of industrial designs.
