The main source of information on patents registered in the Republic of Kazakhstan is Industrial Property Official Gazette, which is published monthly in Kazakh and Russian. NIIP also issues the Annual Index to the Official Gazette, the monthly CD and the quarterly scientific and practical magazine "Intellectual property of Kazakhstan".

NIIP uses International Patent Classification for classifying patent applications.
Bibliographic data for Gazette is generated automatically from the database. Abstracts, full descriptions and claims are scanned, recognized and edited. Texts can be typed in case the recognition is not possible. The Office uses program ABBYY FineReader 7.0 for Optical Character Recognition.
When a patent application is received all information on it is entered into the national database. The information is updated in the course of office procedures.
Information on registered patents, including bibliographic data, descriptions are stored on CD-ROMs as well as on paper carriers and since 2012 on NIIP official website www.kazpatent.kz.
Inventions of World's Countries Database comprises bibliographic abstracts and graphic information on inventions of WIPO, EPO, the UK, Germany, the US, France, Russia (from 2002), Switzerland and Japan published between 1996 and 2006, which enabled Kazakhstan to extend its capacities in patent search for inventions for international novelty.
There is used an on-line automated system for search procedures, which includes information on trademarks filed with NIIP.
Examiners use following external databases for examination purposes: EAPATIS, esp@cenet, PATENTSCOPE, and open registers of Rospatent, RUPAT and RUPAT_OLD. Also NIIP uses database of optical disks CISPATENT.
Automated Information System AIS NIIP automates and simplifies the work, the prosecution of these documents and the organization of electronic documents between Services of the Institute.

Republican patent fund is generated at the Republican Scientific Technical Library (RSTL).
Currently it comprises more than 21 million patent documents from 50 countries and three organizations - WIPO, EPO and EAPO.
At the NIIP's Branch Office Databases Patents of Kazakhstan: Bibliography, Patents of Kazakhstan: Full descriptions and Database Patents of Kazakhstan: Abstracts are generated, which are then recorded on optical disks and distributed around Kazakhstan and abroad.

NIIP's publications are distributed on the basis of mutual exchange, free of charge as defined in the Law on Print (compulsory distribution), and on a commercial basis.
NIIP carries out mutual exchange of Official Gazettes, Annual Reports and databases with near and far abroad countries and the international organizations. About 886 copies of NIIP's publications were distributed including Journal Intellectual Property of Kazakhstan and Official Gazette in 2011.
672 units, including optical disks with patent information, were received in 2011 from foreign patent offices. The exchange of patent information is carried out on paper as well as optical carriers.

During 2011 26 seminars and "roundtable discussions" were held by the Training Center of the Branch of State Enterprise "National Institute of Intellectual Property", which were attended by 433 participants.
An important event for the promotion of invention and the Patent System is an Annual National Contest on Invention Achievements "Shapagat", which was held on April 22, 2012. The Contest promotes the role of Innovation and Invention in the country, investment promotion and implementation of development in the manufacturing sector. WIPO has established seven awards and EAPO has created Gold medal named after V.I. Blinnikov "For a contribution to invention and patent branch" for Kazakh inventors.
Seminar on "Intellectual Property Rights and Access to Medicines: Challenges and Opportunities in the negotiations on accession to the WTO, free trade agreements and the development of national law" was held in Almaty from 14 to 16 April, 2011.
N..Abdrakhim (as Head of the Committee for intellectual property rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and S.Bekenov (as Director of State Enterprise «National Institute of Intellectual Property» of the Committee for Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan) represented the Republic of Kazakhstan on Forty-Ninth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of WIPO Member States, which were held in Geneva from September 26 to October 5, 2011.
