The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.
In the year 2004, the number of designs included in applications, in total, increased with a rate of 10% with respect to previous year.

The most popular areas of design applications (according to the Locarno Classes) are furnishing (Class 6), textile piecegoods (Class 5), clothings (Class 2), building units (Class 25) and household goods (Class 7). Design applications for these areas formed about 70 per cent of total design applications received in the year 2004. These five areas are generally the most demanded areas for design applications in Turkey.
Information concerning industrial designs is published in monthly Official Bulletins on paper. Documents for this Bulletin are generated in electronic environment and sent to the printing office which is an external company. Scanning the images of registered designs and other relevamt documents continued in the year 2004, for electronic archiving an documentation purposes. This study is also a part of the project of preparing the electronic data collecting for industrial designs. Also all kind of documents received by the Institute have been scanned since November 2004 by the "Document Management System" program, for electronic archiving purposes.
Announcement of the Institute for industrial designs is mainly made on the Official Bulletins for Industrial Designs. The bibliographic information concerning design applications are published in the Bulletin in the format which is compatible with WIPO standards (INID codes). In addition to the registrations; corrections, changes in address or names of the holder, transfers, cancellations, legal actions and renewals are published in the Bulletin.
The classification system used is the Locarno Classification (7th Ed.). the classification is used for administrative purposes.
Bibliographic data is stored on main database. These are; application number, application date, applicant (name, adress, nationality), attorney (if applicable), data for priority claim (if claimed), article, class code, and others.
All the information concerning legal status, statistics, images of design aplications are stored in an in-house ORACLE database which allows bibliographic search only. In addition to this, by november 2004, all kind of documents received hav been scanned and stored in the database.
