The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.
In comparison with 2004, the total number of industrial design applications filings in 2005 is decreased for 14%, once we had 620 applications in 2004 and 534 in 2005. At the same time, the number of industrial design applications filed under the Hague Agreement is decreased for 9% once we had 455 applications in 2004 and 418 in 2005.
On the other hand, the Industrial Design Department granted 458 registrations in 2005 against 571 in 2004.
On December 31st, 2005, in Serbia and Montenegro, there were 5523 registered and valid industrial designs, including 457 industrial designs in the national register and 5066 industrial designs registered through the Hague Agreement.

The Intellectual Property Office (henceforward “Office”), on the basis of Industrial Design Law, publishes its official gazette - The Intellectual Property Journal. The Intellectual Property Journal is published bimonthly, 6 times a year in 300 copies.
The Intellectual Property Journal, in the part referring to industrial designs, is prepared by means of computer. Information from Industrial Design data base are transferred to text processor automatically, then minimal technical preparation follows and the text is sent to printing. The following information and bibliographical data concerning registered domestic and international Industrial Design are published in the Intellectual Property Journal – registration number, application number, filing date, registration date, date of granted priority right, validity date, information on the holder of right, graphical appearance of the design. Industrial designs are published in grayscale technique. In 2005, 81 registered industrial designs were published.
Since September 2005, The Gazette is also published on CDs.
Classifying is done by International classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification). Registered designs are indexed using Recommendation Concerning Bibliographical Data Relating to Industrial Designs WIPO st.80.
It is still possible to search the designs manually, because Office still maintains data base that consists of the cards with the published industrial designs.
A data base has been formed consisting of applications and registered rights and it is kept on one PC. Database consists of the following information: application number, filing date, registration number, registration date, date of the granted priority right, date of the expiration of validity, name of the holder of right and address, information concerning the representative, title of the design, number of the Locarno class, and graphical appearance of the design.
Data base on industrial designs is kept on an FUJITSU SIEMENS computer having this configuration – Board with INTEL PENTIUM 4/3.00GHz, 1.00GB RAM, 140.0GB hard discs, 3½ floppy drive, DVD/CD-RW drive, 2X19 inches color monitors. Operating system is Microsoft Windows XP. Database is processed through our own software. Among other software packages, we use Microsoft Office for text processing and desk-top publishing for the publication in the Intellectual Property Journal, and we use Epson Smart Panel for scanning and processing of figurative industrial designs.
There are two more FUJITSU SIEMENS PCs (each with INTEL Pentium 4/2.80GHz, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HD, CD/DVD drive, 2X19” color monitors,) and one more IBM PC with INTEL Pentium 4/1.70GHz, 256 MB RAM,100GB HD, CD/DVD drive, CD/RW drive, 17” color monitor).
For the time being, there is no possibility of on-line access to data base for experts outside the Office in order to perform search. On the other hand, the international database research is done online through the Hague Express Designs Search.

At personal request, all kinds of search procedures are being made.
During 2005, the Official Gazette of the Federal Intellectual Property Office of Serbia and Montenegro, “Intellectual Property Journal” has been delivered to the following countries:

Intellectual Property Office of Serbia and Montenegro organized many lectures concerning industrial Design legal protection in chambers of commerce, fair exhibitions, design conferences and some of the big companies.
