Annual Technical Report 2012 on Trademark Information Activities submitted by Armenia (CWS/ATR/TM/2012/AM)

I. Evolution of registration activities

Changes experienced in terms of application filings and registrations with respect to the previous year

The average duration of the examination of applications on trademarks from filing date to the date of taking decisions on refusal or granting of protection of the trademarks in 2012 was 4-5 months (the duration of the examination of applications on trademarks in 2012 was the same as in 2011).

Trends or areas experiencing rapid changes with respect to the previous year

As compared to 1105 applications in 2011 the number of applications filed by national applicants in 2012 has been increased to 1122 decreased by national procedure. As concerns the activity of foreign legal persons it is increased by national procedure (612 applications in 2011 and 658 applications in 2012).

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of secondary sources of trademark information, i.e., trademark gazettes

In 2012 12 issues of the Official Bulletin “Industrial Property” were published in the form of CD-ROM: № No1 - 12. Bulletins were published in 2 languages in Armenian and in Russian, which included official information on patents on 117 inventions, 37 utility models, certificates on 21 industrial designs, 1408 registered trademarks and service marks, information on registration renewals, as well as information on assignment agreements of patents and trademarks and registration of licenses.
The bulletin “Applications on Trademarks and Service Marks” was published. In 2012 24 issues of the bulletin were published.
Annual report of 2011 of the IPA was prepared and published in Armenian, English and Russian languages and their electronic forms were prepared to put on the Internet page.
Technical and Statistic reports on inventions and utility models, industrial designs, trademarks and service marks for the year of 2011 have been presented to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The Official Bulletins “Industrial Property” and the Annual report of 2011 of the Agency were put on the web for public inspection.
The Official Bulletins were sent to the Armenian Research Institute of Scientific and Technical Information, libraries of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian State University, the Engineering University and the Armenian Academy of Agriculture, the State Public Library and to the Book Palace of Armenia free of charge. The Official Bulletins were as well sent to the Armenian Marz centers free of charge.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of trademark information

Classification and reclassification activities; Classification systems used, e.g., International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification), International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification), other classification (please indicate whether goods and services for the registration of marks and whether the figurative elements of marks are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification(s) is (are) used)

Upon registration of trademarks, goods and services are classified according to the 10-th edition of the International Classification of Goods and Services (Nice Agreement), and figurative elements of trademarks are classified according to the International Classification of Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Agreement).
The list of goods and services in the application for registration of trademarks are indicated by the applicant according to ICTS.

Use of electronic classification systems to check the classification symbols furnished by an applicant and which are contained in the lists of goods and/or services

http://www.wipo.int/classifications/nivilo is used to check the classification symbols.

Bibliographic data and processing

With the help of electronic base the search on trademarks is practically carried out by all bibliographic data.

IV. Trademark manual search file establishment and upkeep

The Agency continued works on reinforcement of funds of Armenian Scientific Technical Information Centre. Information received from foreign patent offices has been transferred to the Centre.

V. Activities in the field of computerized trademark search systems

The Agency uses the third subversion of “trademark” database designed for examination and record keeping and provides:
- Accumulation of bibliographic data in three languages (Armenian, Russian, English)
- Accumulation and control of fees
- Automation of record keeping
- Outlet of statistic data
- Publication of bibliographic data
- Search of information.

VI. Administration of trademark information products and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering trademarks, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)

The bulletin "Applications on Trademarks and Service Marks" of 2012 of the Agency were put on the web for public inspection.
The information on trademarks and service marks is available on the following site http://www.aipa.am.

VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of trademark documentation and information

The Official Bulletins were sent to the Armenian Research Institute of Scientific and Technical Information, libraries of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian State University, the Engineering University, the Armenian Academy of Agriculture, the State Public Library and to the Book Palace of Armenia free of charge. The Official Bulletins were as well sent to the Armenian Marz centers free of charge.
According to the preliminary arrangements on patent information exchange, 21 copies of the Official Bulletin were sent to the Patent offices of foreign countries, as well as to WIPO, EPO and EAPO.
