In 2004 the amount of applications for industrial samples, including from foreign applicants has increased.

The monthly official Bulletin "Oнеркесiр Меншiгi – Промышленная собственность ("Industrial Property") in Kazakh and Russian versions;
Complete descriptions of industrial design (in the language of applications submission);
Scientific - practical magazine " Intellectual property of Kazakhstan ";
Regulatory-legal and instructive-methodical materials regulating industrial property objects protection (in separate pamphlets).
Main types of announcements of the Office in the field of industrial design information
Announcements, advertising information are published in the Official Bulletin as well as in. the Republic newspapers, magazines and journals, it is placed on websites www.intellkaz.kz and www.kazpatent.kz.

Databases and office automation
Techniques used to produce patent information (printing, recording etc.) arc an HPSSI network printer, a CD-ROM device for recording.
In 2004 development of the software directed on development of paperless technology has been continued at office-work and the control of financial streams over services of institute.
III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied

Classification, reclassification and indexing by using hybrid system arc performed by the National Institute of the Intellectual Property through International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification.

For search bibliographic and abstract databases are used.
IV. Search file establishment and upkeep
File building
There is a file of the internal and foreign accessible patent documentation organized according to IPC, and the legislative and scientific and technical literature.
Updating
Updating of the patent documentation is made on a measure of receipt on paper carriers or optical disks.
Storage, including mass storage media
Conditions of storage are defined by type of the carrier of the data (paper carriers or optical disks).
Documentation from other offices maintained and/or considered part of the available search file
For search purposes the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM of EPO, WIPO and
Rospatent facilities are used.
V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs
In-house systems (online/offline)
The institute uses own databases on national fund and databases acting on optical disks.
External databases
In 2004 experts of institute had access next to external databases: EAPATIS, GLOBALPAT, ESPACE, USPTO, Esp@cenet and to other accessible databases in the Internet under the patent information.
Administrative management systems (e.g., register, legal status, statistics, administrative support, etc.)
National Institute of the Intellectual Property has the following application functional systems: filing, examining, fee paying, the State Register, publishing, archive and office activities.
Equipment used (hardware, including the types of terminal and network used, and software), data carriers used
7 servers and 82 workstations are used: 2 Intel 2,6 Гг, 2 processors; Intel P-II, Intel P-III, Intel P-II, Athlon 2000.
The software operational systems Lunix, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
The computers are connected to the 100 networks by means of a twisted pair and controlled by the WINDOWS 98/2000/XP, on the Fileserver - Win2000, on the Webserver - Win NT, and on the Proxyscrver - Win NT.
VI. Administration of industrial design services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Planning, administration, automation, security
The Republic Patent File (RPF) is functioning in Kazakhstan since 1965. It is incorporated in the structure of the Republic Scientific-Technical Library (RSTL). The National Institute of the Intellectual Property has annual agreements with the RSTL under which the institute free-charge transfers to the RPF all national publications and those received on the interchange base for the public use. Besides, on the agreement base the institute provides all regional technical-and-scientific libraries of Kazakhstan as well as different information services and departments of industrial enterprises and educational institutions of
Kazakhstan with its publications.
The institute provides various reference-information services and copying patent documents on the requests of the applicants.
Information services available to the public (including computerized services and search files contained in libraries remote from your Office and industrial design information posted by your Office on the World Wide Web).
The institute has in a department of the patent information fund of patent, help, instructive-methodical and other literature for service of experts
Information service accessible to the public is the Patent fund of Republican scientific and technical library.
VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of industrial design documentation and information
International or regional cooperation in the exchange of industrial design information, e.g., in the form of official gazettes
The institute dispatches the text-through information on optical disks in the Russian agency under patents and trade marks and the Euroasian patent department. On the paper carrier the exchange is conducted by official patent bulletins with all countries CIS. The institute receives on machine-readable carriers the text-through information from WIPO, EPO, EAPO, Germany, Austria, Russia

The institute is ready to an exchange of the patent information on electronic carriers.
VIII. Matters concerning education and training including technical assistance to developing countries
Promotional activities (seminars, exhibitions, visits, advertising, etc.)
In 2004, in the republic there were established four representative offices of NIIP: in Western region – Uralsk, in Eastern region –, in Southern region – Shymkent, in Northern region – Petropavlovsk to provide assistance to employees in representative offices, conduct teaching workshops and to provide with consultations for both specialists and all interested persons in the region.
At NIIP major departments there were trained 12 employees from oblast departments of justice and divisions of intellectual property rights.
Kazakhstan-Americal university helped to arrange for in Ust-Kamenogorsk a workshop and give consultations for specialists from Ulbinskiy metallurgical plant with respect to protection of inventions in the sphere of metallurgy.
Training courses for national and foreign participants
We performed work to train and provide for refreshing courses for employees of the institute. For the purpose to enhance the quality of performing expertises, two employees from the department of expertise of inventions and useful models undertook training at workshops at the European Patent Office majoring in the following specialties: peculiarities of expertise of inventions in the sphere of chemistry, peculiarities of expertise of inventions in the sphere of mechanics and electricity.
