Annual Technical Report 2004 on Industrial Design Information Activities submitted by Slovenia (SCIT/ATR/ID/2004/SI)

The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.

 

I. Evolution of registration activities

In 2004 SIPO received 169 national applications, a 36 % increase from the previous year. 112 applications (66.3%) were filed by domestic applicants and 57 (33.7 %) by foreign applicants.

The registration procedure averaged 86 days.

Compared to the previous year, the number of registered national designs increased by 44 %. At the end of 2004, there were 6159 industrial designs in force, out of which 874 were filed through national route and 5285 through international route.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of industrial design documents and of secondary sources of industrial design information, i.e., official gazettes

SIPO publishes information on registered designs in the Slovenian Industrial Property Gazette (BIL) as well as on internet-site. On-line information service includes biblographic data on registered designs.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied

SIPO uses the last edition of Locarno classification.

IV. Search file establishment and upkeep

SIPO does not perform any manual search.

The updating of the files are regular depending on the number of registrations.

V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs

SIPO has a computer aided possibilities for searching industrial designs information. There is also Internet external databases available.

Equipment used (hardware, including the types of terminal and network used, and software carriers used:
- 2Mbit/s leased line used for Internet connections, CISCO Network Equipment (LAN based on Fast Etheret and Gigabit solutions)
- Digital Alpha 2100 mainframe with Open VMS operating system and RMS for database, terminals VT 420 and VT 510
- Windows environment: NT4.0 and 2003 for servers; workstations Compaq/HP Pentium with NT4.0 and XP

VI. Administration of industrial design services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)

SIPO offers free information services concerning legal questions, details of registration procedures submitted verbally (personnaly or by phone). The homepage of SIPO also contains general information on procedures, forms and fees.

VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of industrial design documentation and information

The official bulletin of SIPO is mutually exchanged on a bilateral basis with other offices.

VIII. Matters concerning education and training including technical assistance to developing countries

SIPO organized in 2004 several seminars on industrial property protection including industrial designs for the public.

SIPO also participated in different fairs by information stands, including information about industrial design activities.
