The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.
I. Evolution of registration activities
Changes experienced in terms of application filings and grants (registrations) with respect to the previous year
In 2004 to come in force new ”Rules for the drawing up, filing and processing of a patent application for the granting patents on the industrial designs”, taking into account, old modifications and additions in Law “On inventions, utility models and industrial designs”.
Trends or areas experiencing rapid changes with respect to the previous year
In 2004 73 applications were filing on the industrial designs were filing in State patent office. Most of them filed from the national applicants – 69,8%. Noting positive growth of filed by foreign applicants, in 2003 –13%, in reporting year – 30% increase from total number of the filed applicants.
The largest numbers of applications were filing on following classes on International Classification on Industrial Designs (ICID): 1 class (foodstuffs), 6 class (goods of furniture), 7 class (household goods), 9 class (container, package goods), 11 class (jewellery goods), 12 class (transport facilities, lifting devices), 23 class (equipment for dividing liquid and gas, sanitary equipment, equipment for the heating, and others). Indicated classes made 68.5 % from total of the filed applications.
II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of industrial design documents and of secondary sources of industrial design information, i.e., official gazettes
Publishing, including printing, copying techniques and electronic printing
In 2003 the official publications of SPO on industrial designs included the following editions:
- official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma»- 6 issues (on CD-ROMs);
- publication sheets to patents on industrial designs- 58 publication sheets (on paper);
- collection of annual indexes to the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» (sections of indexes under industrial designs) - 1 volume.

descriptions of inventions – 218;
descriptions of utility models – 40;
collection of annual indexes to the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» (sections of indexes under industrial designs) - 1 volume.
The information on the registered industrial designs are published in sections of “Industrial designs” of the official bulletin “Rasmiy Ahborotnoma”, which is from the 2004y edited on CD-ROM.
The information on the industrial designs includes the bibliographic data, and the list of material indications of industrial designs and image. In 2004 in the official bulletins information on 92 industrial designs were published.
Main types of announcements of the Office in the field of industrial design information
The main announcements, concerning activity of SPO on industrial designs accommodated in the section “Official information ” of the official bulletin “Rasmiy Ahborotnoma”, and on the site (www.patent.uz).
Mass storage media and microforms used
SPO have complete collection of patent documentation of Uzbekistan on the paper. Patent documentation stored in bibliographic database and in electronic depository. During processing applications all documents concerning industrial designs, are scanned and kept in a facsimile kind in format TIFF. Descriptions and abstracts are distinguished by system OCR and storing - in format MS-Word; drawings are kept in format TIFF.
Databases and office automation
The assembly chapter of official bulletin on industrial designs realized in automation regime in the publication department employee workplace. By the special request select and classified bibliographic data from the database (СУБД MS SQL Server 2000) and the texts of documents from the electronic storage. The follow-up operation (page-proof, duplication) made wiht the Adob PageMaker program.
III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied
Classification and reclassification activities; Classification system used, e.g., International Classification for Industrial Designs (Locarno Classification), other classification (please indicate whether industrial designs are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification is used)
The applications for industrial samples are classified according to 7-th edition by the International classification of industrial designs (Locarno Agreement). Other classification systems are not applied.
Bibliographic data and processing for search purposes
The bibliographic data are kept as dynamic XML - documents and in an internal database constructed on a basis SUBD MS SQL Server 2000. The primary filling of base is made by special group of input. The bibliographic data are supported and are updated during life cycle of the application by all departments involved in process. The changes in base will be authorized. The interfaces of access to base are constructed on the basis of Intranet-technologies.
IV. Search file establishment and upkeep
File building
The search file on a paper and optical disks is formed on the basis of a collection of State Fund of the patent documentation and includes materials on the industrial designs contained in the foreign official bulletins 22 countries and the incorporated cumulative editions on industrial designs, prepared INIC Rospatent; is placed by a geographical principle. The retrospective part is submitted photograph library of industrial designs.
Under the national patent documents the bibliographic databases and electronic file (textual) storehouses for internal use are conducted.
Updating
The search files on a paper and part on CD/DVD-ROM are updated monthly, some CD/DVD-ROM are updated annually.
The bibliographic data and files of the documents in electronic storehouse under the national documents can replenish and - or be corrected in process of the reference.
Storage, including mass storage media
The conditions of a storage of fund depend mostly on kinds of carriers of the information: the patent documents on a paper are stored in wall cases, photograph library on microfilms - in boxes, on CD-ROM and DVD-ROM - in stores in wall cases.
The bases bibliographic, record keeping data and file storehouse are copied by standard methods (SUBD, OC) on specialized a file - servers.
The documentation from other departments is supported and - or is considered as a part of a patent file of search.
In 2004 the State Fund of the patent documentation has replenished with the patent-information editions 22 countries of the world.
V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs
In-house systems (online/offline)
Is developed and the base of the bibliographic data on industrial designs being a part of general search system of internal usage is used.
Through the program of service of a database are carried out:
· input, change and updating of the bibliographic data;
· formation of the documents (documents on correspondence with the applicant: inquiries, notice, decision; register sheets, security letters, text for the official bulletin);
· search in a database on formulated by the user to inquiries.
The base contains the bibliographic information. The complete texts and images of industrial designs in this database do not contain and are placed separately in file storehouse, but are accessible to editing and viewing.
Administrative management systems (e.g., register, legal status, statistics, administrative support, etc.)
Is entered into action and the automated system of general and patent office-work ensuring creation and conducting of archive of the electronic documents, exchange of the documents and messages, direction of the tasks on execution and control of execution of the assignments, routing of passage of the applications etc. is maintained

Local Network
In the main building of SPO the local network with total of ports 288 is constructed. All ports switched also guarantee throughput 10/100/1000 Mbps. In a building of Patent library there is a local network on 24 ports with throughput 10/100 Mbps. Local cable systems correspond to requirements to networks of 5 categories (standard ANSI EIA/TIA-568) and are constructed on the equipment of firm Mod-Tap.
Internet service.
SPO is connected to the Internet on the allocated ADSL channel. Speed of connection is 256 Kbps. The software is applied to protection of resources of a LAN of office

VI. Administration of industrial design services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Planning, administration, automation, security
Completes the patent information on industrial designs the State Fund of the patent documentation of SPO, which practically is a unique complete collection of the patent documentation in territory of Uzbekistan and carries out patent-information service both expert structure of department, and wide circle of a public, i.e. carries out functions of public library.
Collection management, preservation
The collection of fund includes the patent bulletins with the items of information on industrial designs of 22 countries, WIPO and cumulative collection INIC Rospatent, including on CD-ROM disks - 3 countries. The collection is placed on the countries and years. The acquisition is carried out on the international exchange, by way of a subscription and acquisition by the own editions. The collection on the microforms is located in basement storehouses, and on CD-ROM disks - in stores in wall cases.
Information services available to the public (including computerized services and search files contained in libraries remote from your Office and industrial design information posted by your Office on the World Wide Web).
The information services that are carried out by the orders of the consumers include realization of patent search, classification on ICID, advices on drawing up and registration of the applications, copying, selection and distribution of the documents on inquiries of the users etc.
The distribution of the patent documents is carried out directly in reading and computer halls of fund.
VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of industrial design documentation and information
International or regional cooperation in the exchange of industrial design information, e.g., in the form of official gazettes
The official bulletin of SPO «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» with the information on the registered industrial designs by way of a bilateral exchange is dispatched in patent offices of 26 countries, a also to international organizations WIPO, EPO and regional organization EAPO.
Exchange of machine-readable information, e.g., data contained on CD-ROM or magnetic tape
Since 2004 SPO issues the official bulletin on CD-ROM disks.
On a bilateral exchange at SPO in 2004 the official bulletins with the information on industrial designs from offices of 22 countries (from them on 4 countries on CD-ROMs), and also incorporated edition INIC Rospatent "Industrial designs of foreign countries" have acted.
VIII. Matters concerning education and training including technical assistance to developing countries
Promotional activities (seminars, exhibitions, visits, advertising, etc.)
The information on work of SPO in the field of industrial designs is a part of seminars organized for the experts, businessmen, etc.
In mass media the publications about necessity of a right protection of industrial designs are placed.
Training courses for national and foreign participants
The experts of SPO read courses of lectures to the students of higher educational institutions on industrial design.
