Annual Technical Report 2008 on Industrial Design Information Activities submitted by Armenia (SCIT/ATR/ID/2008/AM)

The expression "industrial designs" covers industrial designs and models. Offices which issue design patents should report their design patent information activities in this series of Annual Technical Reports.

I. Evolution of registration activities

In 2008 24 applications for industrial designs were filed with the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Armenia (18 applications for 2007).
In 2008 13 patents were granted on industrial designs (25 patents for 2007)
The statistical data on filed applications and granted patents on industrial design are given on the following site http://www.aipa.am of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Armenia.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of industrial design documents and of secondary sources of industrial design information, i.e., official gazettes

In 2008 12 numbers of the Official Bulletin “Industrial Property” were published:
No 1(45) – 12 (56), in CD-ROM format.
The bulletins were published in Armenian and Russian and include official information on 14 patents on industrial designs.
Preparation and publication of description of 14 industrial designs have been carried out for their provision to the patent owners.
Technical and Statistic reports on industrial designs and service marks for 2007 have been prepared and presented to the World Intellectual Property Organization.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of industrial design information according to the classification systems applied

International classification for Industrial Designs ICID (Locarno Agreement) is used for registration of industrial designs.

IV. Search file establishment and upkeep

The Agency kept on works towards update of the foundation of the Armenian Centre for Scientific and Technical Information. The information received from patent offices of foreign countries is forwarded to the Centre.

V. Activities in the field of computerized search systems for industrial designs

The Agency uses the subversion of “Industrial designs” databases. The subversion database designed for examination and proceedings provides:
- Accumulation of bibliographic data in three languages (Armenian, Russian, English)
- Accumulation and control of fees
- Automation of record keeping
- Outlet of statistic data
- Publication of bibliographic data
- Search of information.

In the reporting period automation and technical re-equipment of the Agency has been continued. The Agency has re-equipped with six computers of Intel (R) Core(TM) 2 DUO type, computer supplementary devices and equipments as well as with sources of uninterrupted power supply units. Shortcomings and omissions in the information system of the Agency revealed in the course of its exploitation have been eliminated. A series of changes and supplements have been made with the aim of coping with the tasks having been raised as a result of improvement of works carried out in the Agency.
Microsoft XP, Windows Vista Office and Microsoft Office have been installed and adjusted, service of operation system, installation and adjustment of computer programs, diagnostics of infected and damaged computers and programs and elimination of errors.
Installation and operation of program Microsoft Windows Server Update Services 3.0 has been carried out.

VI. Administration of industrial design information products and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering designs, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)

The information on industrial design, which is published in Official Bulletins, is given on the following site http://www.aipa.am of the Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Armenia.

VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of industrial design documentation and information

The Official Bulletins containing notifications on industrial design subject matters are sent free of charge to the Armenian Research Institute of Scientific and Technical Information, Main Library of the National Academy of Sciences, the libraries of the Armenian State University, the State Engineering University of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian Academy of Agriculture, the State Public Library and to the Book Chamber of Armenia. Official Bulletins have also been sent to the regional centers of the Republic of Armenia free of charge.
According to the preliminary arrangements on patent information exchange, 21 copies of the Official Bulletin, where information on industrial design of the Agency had been published, were sent to the Patent offices of foreign countries, as well as to WIPO, EPO and EAPO.
