I. Evolution of registration activities
Changes experienced in terms of application filings and registrations with respect to the previous year
The procedures of filing application, examination and patent granting have not changed in 2008.
The total of the filed applications for registration on trademarks in 2008 has made 5033, that on 4% is less in comparison with 2007 year. 1983 applications were filed on national procedure, that makes 39, 4 % from the total number. The national applicants were filed 1205 applications, that makes 60, 8 % from total number of filed applications on national procedure. In 2008 the quantity of applications on national procedure, submitted by foreign applicants, has increased for 14, 4 % in comparison with the last year.
3050 (60, 6%) applications are filed on international procedure, including 727 (14, 4 %) applications on procedure of the Madrid Agreement and 2323 (46,2 %) applications on procedure of the Madrid Protocol.
1727 trademarks were registered in 2008 y that on 59, 2 % is more in comparison with 2007 year. Protection is given to 2614 trade marks on the Madrid Agreement and Madrid Protocol on the International Registration of Signs.

II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of secondary sources of trademark information, i.e., trademark gazettes
Publishing, printing, copying techniques
In 2008 official publications of the office on trademarks joined in following editions:
• The official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» - 12 issues
• The collection of annual indexes to the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» (section of the index on trademarks) on the electronic carrier.
Data on the registered trademarks are published in section "Trademarks" of the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» which from 2004 is published on CD-ROM. Data on trademarks include bibliographic data and image. In 2008 in official bulletins data on 1790 trademarks are published.
Main types of announcements of the Office in the field of trademark information
The most important announcements, concerning activity of the office on trademarks are available in section "Communiques" of the bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» and on the website of the SPO (www.patent.uz).
Mass storage media and microforms used
Data on national trademarks are stored in existing bibliographic database "Trademarks" of SPO and in electronic storehouses.
Word processing and office automation
During processing applications all the documents, concerning trademarks, are scanned and kept in facsimile form in format TIFF.
Gathering chapters of the official bulletin on trademarks is carried out automatically on the workplace of the employee of publication division. By specialized inquiry the bibliographic data from database (SUBD MS SQL Server 2000) and texts of documents (abstracts) are selected and sorted from electronic storehous. The subsequent operations (page makeup, duplicating) are made by means of programs Adobe PageMaker, Word and Adobe Acrobat.
Techniques used for the generation of trademark information (printing, recording, photocomposing, etc.)
Images of trademarks are saved in format JPG by means of program Adobe PhotoShop. Bibliographic data are kept and processed in format XML and in parallel in DB SQL Server.

III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of trademark information
Classification and reclassification activities; Classification systems used, e.g., International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification), International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification), other classification (please indicate whether goods and services for the registration of marks and whether the figurative elements of marks are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification(s) is (are) used)
Goods and services are classified according to the International classification of goods and services (Nice Classification, 9th edition). The Figurative elements of trade marks are classified according to the International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification).
Use of electronic classification systems to check the classification symbols furnished by an applicant and which are contained in the lists of goods and/or services
Examiners of the SPO use electronic version of ICGS of 9th edition for updating the classification headings specified by applicants.
Obligation for applicants to use pre-defined terms of the classification applied
In application documents on trademarks, the applicant should put down classification indexes according to ICGS (Nice Classification) operating edition.
Bibliographic data and processing
Bibliographic data are kept in the form of dynamic XML-documents and in the internal database constructed on the basis of SUBD MS SQL Server 2000. Primary filling of base is made by special group of input. Bibliographic data are supported and updated during life of the application by all departments involved in process. Changes in base will be authorized. Interfaces of access to base are constructed on the basis of Intranet-technologies.
IV. Trademark manual search file establishment and upkeep
Searching trademarks at traditional carriers is not carried out by examiners of the SPO; it is carried out only by other users on the basis of collections of the State Fund of the Patent Documentation in reading rooms.
V. Activities in the field of computerized trademark search systems
In-house systems (online/offline)
Implementation of internal portal of the SPO is stopped which realizes functions of the patent -information search system, the regulated statistics and office-work SATOZ («Through automated technology of processing of applications»), because of the revealed lacks during operation.
External databases
Access through the Internet to examiner to database of WIPO international trademarks - International Trademark Information Database (ROMARIN) is provided. Search is carried out by examiners of the office with use as indexes of Nice classification, and Vienna classification of graphic elements of signs. Indexes of the Vienna classification are on regular basis brought in a database "Trademarks".
Administrative management systems (e.g., register, legal status, statistics and administrative support)
The full-function system of administration is in SATOZ, providing authorization, access to the information, safety, and management of the rights of users, groups and options of system.
Equipment used (hardware, including the types of terminal and network used, and software), carriers used
The equipment: Server group, network infrastructure (cable communications, routers), workstations (from P-II, up to P-V), periphery (printers, scanners, photocopy).
Operational system: Windows 2003 (servers SQL Server 2000/2003, Exchange 2003, ISA, IIS, server of reserve copying/restoration of the information), Vista and Windows 2000/XP (workstations).
The applied software: SATOZ/Landocs, an external site www.patent.uz, bibliographic database system of patent searching, an internal site (PIPS), System of testing of knowledge, Semantic antivirus system.
Applied systems: "Norm" program system, “1C Account” account system, Promt 10 machine translation system, Lingvo 10 system of dictionaries, ORT-system Fine Reader, Photoshop CS2, office system MS Office (professional), Adobe Reader 7.0.
VI. Administration of trademark information products and services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering trademarks, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Planning, administration, automation, security
The State Patent Documentation Fund of SPO gathered information on trade marks, which is structural division of SPO and also practically unique full collection of the patent documentation in territory of Uzbekistan. On the basis of State Patent Documentation Fund of SPO is carried out patent- information services for office experts and public.
Collection management, preservation
The collection of Fund includes patent bulletins with data on trademarks of 25 countries and WIPO. Acquisition is carried out on the basis of international exchange, in order of a subscription and acquisition by own editions. The collection on a paper is stored on metal racks and in wall cupboard, collection on CD/DVD-ROM disks are stored in stores in wall cases.
Information services available to the public (including computerized services and search files contained in libraries remote from your Office and trademark information posted by your Office on the World Wide Web)
The information services which are carried out under orders of consumers, include: carrying out of the automated search on CD/DVD-ROM; classification on international classification of trademark; search in the database of the office, consultation on drawing up and registration of applications for registration (including international) trademark; copying, selection and issue of documents by inquiries of users, and etc.
Issue of patent documents on traditional carriers is carried out directly in reading rooms, and also in electronic fund in which the patent documentation and the information on trademarks on optical disks is presented.

International or regional cooperation in the exchange of trademark information, e.g., in the form of official gazettes
Official bulletin of SPO «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» with data on the registered trademarks is dispatched to patent offices of 27 countries in the basis of bilateral exchange and international and regional organizations as WIPO, EPO, and EAPO.
Exchange of machine-readable information
From 2004 the SPO publishes the official bulletin on CD-ROM disks. In 2008 on the basis of bilateral exchange SPO has received official bulletins with data on trademarks from offices of 21 countries and WIPO, from its official bulletins on CD-ROM and DVD-ROM disks from.9 countries and WIPO.

Promotional activities (seminars, exhibitions, visits, advertising, etc.)
Activity of SPO in the field of trademarks is the part of office organizing seminars, in particular the regional seminars « Legal Protection of IP Objects and its role in development region’s economy» were organized in 2008 in the following cities of Uzbekistan: Urgench, Termez, Karshi, Samarkand, Bukhara, Navoiy, Namangan, Andijan, Fergana, Nukus, Gulistan, Jizak. Representatives of the small and medium-sized enterprises, the research organizations, universities are participants of seminars. The total of participants of seminars has made from above 900 persons.
Information on necessity legal protection of trade marks is published in mass media.
