I. Evolution of registration activities
Trends or areas experiencing rapid changes with respect to the previous year
In 2004 at SPO 2882 applications for registration of trademarks, including 945 applications on national procedure and 1937 - on the international procedure are filed. The filing of the applications on national procedure basically has increased at the expense of increase of activity of the foreign applicants: the national applicants filed 439 applications, that makes 46,5 % from total of the filed applications on national procedure; the share of the foreign applicants of the filed application on national procedure makes 53,5 %, that on 31,0 % it is more, than the last year.
II. Matters concerning the generation, reproduction, and distribution of secondary sources of trademark information, i.e., trademark gazettes
Publishing, printing, copying techniques
In 2004 the official publications of SPO on trademarks were included in the following editions:
· the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» - 6 issues
· the collection of the annual indexes to the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» for 2001 (section of the index on trademarks) - 1 volume (on a paper).
The information on the registered trademarks are published in section "Trade marks" of the official bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma», which since 2004 is let out on CD-ROM. The information on trademarks includes the bibliographic data and image. In 2004 in the official bulletins the information on 737 trademarks are published.
Main types of announcements of the Office in the field of trademark information
The most important announcements, concerning activity of SPO on trademarks are placed in section «Official messages» of the bulletin «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» and on web sute of SPO (www.patent.uz).
Mass storage media and microforms used
For preparation of materials the automated system of processing of the documents is used. During processing the applications all documents concerning trade marks, are scanned and are kept in a facsimile kind in a format TIFF. The images of trademarks are entered in a format JPEG. The bibliographic data are kept and are processed in a format XML and in parallel in DB SQL Server.
Word processing and office automation
The information on trademarks is stored in an existing bibliographic database "Trademarks" of SPO and in electronic storehouses.
Techniques used for the generation of trademark information (printing, recording, photocomposing, etc.)
The assembly of the chapter of the official bulletin on trademarks is carried out in the automated mode on a workplace of the employee of a department of the publications. On the specialized inquiry are selected and are sorted bibliographic given from a database (SUBD MS SQL Server 2000) and texts of the documents (abstracts) from electronic storehouse. The subsequent operations (imposition, duplicating) are made with the help of the program Adob PageMaker.
III. Matters concerning classifying, reclassifying and indexing of trademark information
Classification and reclassification activities; Classification systems used, e.g., International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (Nice Classification), International Classification of the Figurative Elements of Marks (Vienna Classification), other classification (please indicate whether goods and services for the registration of marks and whether the figurative elements of marks are classified by your Office and, if so, which classification(s) is (are) used)
The applications for trademarks are classified according to the International classification of the goods and services (Nice classification). Since January 1, 2001 8-th edition Nice classification is used.
Use of electronic classification systems to check the classification symbols furnished by an applicant and which are contained in the lists of goods and/or services
The experts of SPO use the electronic version ICGS of 8-th edition for updating the classification headings, specified by the applicants
Obligation for applicants to use pre-defined terms of the classification applied
In application documents on trademarks, the applicant should put down classification indexes according to ICGS (Nice classification) working edition.
Bibliographic data and processing for search purposes
The bibliographic data are kept as the dynamic XML-documents and in an internal database constructed on a basis SUBD MS SQL Server 2000. The primary filling of base is made by special group of input. The bibliographic data are supported and are updated during life of the application by all departments involved in process. The changes in base will be authorized. The interfaces of access to base are constructed on the basis of Intranet-technologies.
IV. Trademark manual search file establishment and upkeep
The search on trademarks on traditional carriers by the experts of SPO is failed, will be carried out only outside users on the basis of collections of State Fund of the Patent Documentation in reading halls.
V. Activities in the field of computerized trademark search systems
In-house systems (online/offline)
Is developed and the base of the bibliographic data on trademarks being a part of general search system of internal usage is used.
Through the program of service of a database are carried out:
· input, change and updating of the bibliographic data;
· formation of the documents (documents on correspondence with the applicant: inquiries, notice, decision; register sheets, security letters, text for the official bulletin);
· search in a database on formulated by the user to inquiries.
The base contains the bibliographic information. The complete texts and images of trademarks in this database do not contain and are placed separately in file storehouse, but are accessible to editing and viewing.
External databases
The access through the Internet to the experts to a database of the international trademarks WIPO - International Trademark Information Database (ROMARIN) is supplied. The experts of SPO carry out the search with use as indexes of Nice classification, and Vienna classification of representational elements of marks. The indexes of the Vienna classification are regularly brought in to a database "Trademarks".

Local Network
In the main building of SPO the local network with total of ports 288 is constructed. All ports switched also guarantee throughput 10/100/1000 Mbps. In a building of Patent library there is a local network on 24 ports with throughput 10/100 Mbps. Local cable systems correspond to requirements to networks of 5 categories (standard ANSI EIA/TIA-568) and are constructed on the equipment of firm Mod-Tap.
Internet service.
SPO is connected to the Internet on the allocated ADSL channel. Speed of connection is 256 Kbps. The software is applied to protection of resources of a LAN of office

VI. Administration of trademark services available to the public (relating to facilities, e.g., for lodging applications, registering trademarks, assisting clients with search procedures, obtaining official publications and registry extracts)
Planning, administration, automation, security
Completes the information on trademarks the State Fund of the Patent Documentation of SPO.
Collection management, preservation
The collection of fund includes the patent bulletins with the information on trademarks of 24 countries and WIPO, is placed on the countries and years. The acquisition is carried out on the international exchange, by way of a subscription and acquisition by the own editions. The collection on a paper is stored on metal racks and in wall cases, collection on CD/DVD-ROM disks - in stores in wall cases.
Information services available to the public (including computerized services and search files contained in libraries remote from your Office and trademark information posted by your Office on the World Wide Web)
The information services which are carried out by the orders of the consumers, include: realization of the automated search on CD/DVD-ROM; classification on ICGS; search in a database of the Office, advice on drawing up and registration of the applications on registration (including international) trademark; copying, selection and distribution of the documents on inquiries of the users etc.
The distribution of the information on trademarks is carried out directly in reading and computer halls of the Fund.
VII. Matters concerning mutual exchange of trademark documentation and information
International or regional cooperation in the exchange of trademark information, e.g., in the form of official gazettes
The official bulletin of SPO «Rasmiy Ahborotnoma» with the information on the registered trademarks by way of a bilateral exchange is dispatched in patent offices of 26 countries, a also international and regional organizations - WIPO, EPO, EAPO.
Exchange of machine-readable information
Since 2004 SPO issues the official bulletin on CD-ROM disks. On a bilateral exchange at SPO in 2004 the official bulletins with the information on trademarks from offices of 22 countries and WIPO, from them on six on CD-ROM and DVD-ROMs have acted.
VIII. Matters concerning education and training including technical assistance to developing countries
Promotional activities (seminars, exhibitions, visits, advertising, etc.)
The information on work of SPO in the field of trademarks is a part of seminars organized for the experts, businessmen and etc.
In mass media the publications about necessity of a right protection of trademarks are placed.
