At the helm of Natura’s sustainability agenda, Angela has been instrumental in advancing nature-based solutions, climate action, and inclusive innovation across Latin America and globally. Her appointment underscores WIPO GREEN’s commitment to partnering with influential industry voices to accelerate the deployment of green technologies in support of the SDGs.
Angela will play a key role in promoting WIPO GREEN’s initiatives within Brazil’s innovation ecosystem, engaging business and sustainability networks, and helping identify new opportunities for green technology collaboration and impact.
We have invited Ambassador Pinhati to respond to the following questions as part of our ongoing WIPO GREEN Ambassador interview series:
- Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you think sustainable development is important?
As a chemical engineer, I have dedicated my career to fostering more sustainable, humane, and regenerative production chains. With over 30 years of experience in supply chain management, including procurement, logistics, engineering, manufacturing, quality, safety, and environmental management - I bring a comprehensive perspective to sustainability. In 2023, I embraced the challenge of becoming Sustainability Director for Natura Latin America, a role inspired by the company’s mission to protect the forest, strengthen the Amazon bioeconomy, and promote social well-being.
I firmly believe that sustainable development is the only viable path to a prosperous and balanced future. Our commitments must extend beyond environmental preservation; we need to fundamentally transform how we manage natural resources, engage people, and conduct business. This means promoting inclusion, regeneration, and social well-being at every step.
- What unique role can Brazil’s industry and innovation sector play in advancing global climate and sustainability goals?
Brazil is uniquely positioned to spearhead global climate and sustainability initiatives. By developing methodologies and technologies that quantify socio-environmental impacts and integrate them into corporate financial performance, the nation can reshape the global market towards an economy that balances profit with regeneration.
Leveraging its rich socio-biodiversity, advanced technologies, and traditional knowledge, Brazil can drive a regenerative bioeconomy. This bioeconomy will be based on innovative solutions with profound positive impacts for both the environment and local communities. Simultaneously, Brazilian industry can lead the transition to circular, decarbonized, traceable, and inclusive supply chains that eliminate deforestation and promote regenerative practices.
Through collaboration with companies, governments, traditional communities, and other stakeholders, the industrial sector can catalyze a systemic transformation towards a sustainable development model that meaningfully contributes to global climate and sustainability targets.
- What are your top priorities or areas of focus during your term as Ambassador?
My objective is to bolster the ties between Brazil's dynamic innovation ecosystem and global initiatives aimed at scaling green technologies. A crucial first step involves enhancing the visibility and integration of nature-based solutions within Brazil's innovation landscape, bridging the gap between scientific research, traditional knowledge, and business applications. Furthermore, fostering inclusive innovation is vital, achieved by championing initiatives that prioritize social equity and empower local communities in the development and deployment of green technologies. I also plan to facilitate the identification and connection of scalable Brazilian solutions with international partners through the WIPO GREEN platform. This will create opportunities for collaboration, investment, and impact that significantly advance the SDGs.
I am confident that Brazil possesses immense potential to lead in this area, and I am eager to contribute to WIPO GREEN’s mission by amplifying the voices, solutions, and partnerships that drive systemic change.
- Why do you think innovators and industry leaders should use WIPO GREEN?
WIPO GREEN serves as a vital platform for accelerating the shift towards circular and regenerative business models, directly supporting the SDGs. It provides an unparalleled environment to link groundbreaking Brazilian innovations with international needs and collaborators, thereby magnifying the influence of these technologies. For those scouting for innovation, it acts as a global display of prospects and networks, facilitating the expansion of transformative concepts into wider markets.
Angela Pinhati’s appointment as WIPO GREEN Ambassador for Brazil highlights the growing alignment between corporate leadership and global sustainability goals. Her perspective, grounded in real-world innovation and implementation, adds valuable momentum to WIPO GREEN’s efforts to build climate-resilient partnerships across regions.
