Toyota Industries Corporation Contributes to the WIPO GREEN Online Database

March 23, 2020

Today, Toyota Industries Corporation announced its partnership with WIPO GREEN, adding over 200 green technology patents to the WIPO GREEN online database.

In March 2020, Toyota Industries Corporation uploaded over 200 green technology patents into the WIPO GREEN database, contributing 101 listings to the databases’ existing 3,400 technology and needs submissions. The company’s submissions can be grouped as follows:

  • Plastic Glazing, 89 patents: This lightweight material replaces glass and can be used for vehicle roofs. Being approximately 40% lighter than vehicle roofs made of glass, plastic glazing contributes to reducing CO2 emissions.

  • Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic, 84 patents: This material is made by impregnating a resin into a three-dimensional carbon fiber fabric, woven by Toyota Industries Corporation’s original three-dimensional loom. It has been put to practical use in crash boxes of vehicles. Being one-fifth lighter than steel and with 1.5 times higher energy absorption capacity, the material contributes to reduced environmental impact and improved collision safety performance.

  • Solar heat collection tube, 35 patents: Toyota Industries Corporation’s solar heat collection tube is a key component of a concentrating solar thermal power generation system that collects sunlight and extracts high-temperature heat. The technology has a selective absorption film that efficiently absorbs sunlight, extracting thermal energy of 400°C or higher.
