Currently standing at 146, our growing global team of partners, including Fortune 500 companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and intellectual property offices (IPOs), work together in facilitating more green technology exchanges, Acceleration Projects, collaborations with other stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of increasing investment and deployment of environmentally friendly solutions to combat climate change.
WIPO GREEN is proud to announce the newest partner to join our mission: the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). USPTO is a federal agency responsible for granting patents and registering trademarks and is one of the world's largest intellectual property offices by volume.
IP Offices are key actors in green innovation ecosystems. IPO GREEN, launched in 2022 with funding from the Japan Patent Office, is a WIPO GREEN initiative that brings IPOs together to share their experiences and insights in enacting policies and programs to deliver on sustainability goals and targets.
One of USPTO’s ongoing high-profile initiatives highlighting and promoting innovations to address the world’s environmental challenges, including climate change, is the Climate Change Mitigation Pilot Program, which fast-tracks the examination of patents for innovations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Another USPTO program, the Patents for Humanity awards competition, recognizes innovators bringing game-changing technologies to those in humanitarian need. The theme for 2022 is Clean Energy.
